O'Connor - Quote of the Day
Push back against the age as hard as it pushes against you. What people don't realize is how much religion costs. They think faith is a big electric blanket, when, of course, it is the cross.
I would be most grateful if you would tell me WHERE the "Push back against the age" line comes from. I've been scouring Mystery and Manners and other collections of Flannery's non-fiction without success. I did find the rest of the quote (in Mystery and Manners), but can't track down "Push back". Can you help? This heat wave intensifies the frustration, if you know what I mean. Thanks!
If you want a great experience, if you have read O'Connor's fiction and Mystery and Manners, read The Habit of Being, also edited by Sally Fitzgerald. It's not only a great autobiography in letters, it's a wonderful and inspiring read. It will ease the heat wave for you.
