Belloc predicted the appeasement of the majority to servility for a modicum of comfort and security. His biographer, Speaght, says he was off put when he found that "government" and "the rich" weren't synonymous - government still sapped the rich along with everyone else.
But he was right about the appeasement of the majority to servility. I have never seen such cynicism, bald hubris, and unbridled greed as during the present economic "crisis" - among the wealth grabbers, either in and among the AIG types or in Congress and the White House.
"All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."
