Victor Davis Hanson has a piece deploring the lack of a truly inquiring news media in America in I No Longer Quite Believe.
What he does admirably is lay out the rapidity with which the sacrificial crisis, anthropologically speaking, alters and sub-alters the terms of discourse. One might even say this is happening on the biblical - and global - scale of the Tower of Babel.
If you want to attain to any level of certainty in epistemological terms, stick close to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Or, in the inimitable words of Peter in the first (excellent) Chronicles of Narnia films, "Hang on to me."
